How this site is paid for

Some links here earn a commission. Here is exactly which ones, what it does and does not buy, and the platform we have deliberately chosen not to be paid for.

The short version

MovingDay contains affiliate links. If you start a paid plan with a platform after following one, that platform may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it is how the site funds the time spent re-walking procedures against vendor documentation.

This disclosure exists because readers are entitled to know, and because the United States Federal Trade Commission requires material connections between a publisher and a product to be disclosed clearly.

Every outbound partner link on this site goes through a /go/ address before it reaches the vendor, so they are easy to identify. They are marked in the page’s markup as sponsored links and are excluded from search-engine crawling.

The complete list of platforms we hold a partner relationship with, or intend to, is short: Squarespace, Shopify, WordPress, Wix and Hostinger. Every other product, tool or service named anywhere on this site is named because a procedure requires it, and is linked plainly or not at all.

We do not put affiliate links inside a numbered step. If a line is telling you which button to press, it is not also trying to sell you something — the partner links sit in the surrounding prose, where a platform is being named as a destination rather than operated.

What commission does not buy

It does not change a procedure. Steps are written from the vendor’s own documentation and re-checked on a stated date. There is no version of this site where a partner relationship alters which menu you open.

It does not soften a limitation. Where a platform’s export leaves your content behind, that is stated in the same words whether we earn on it or not. Three of the five platforms above have documented export limitations described bluntly on this site.

It does not buy a recommendation. This site does not rank builders or tell you which to choose. There is no list to buy a place on.

It does not buy silence. A vendor may ask for a correction of fact and will get one. A vendor asking for a documented limitation to be removed will be told no, in writing.

The platform we will not take money for

One builder discussed at length here offers no export tool of any kind — not a partial one, not a data-only one. Everything on it has to be retyped by hand to leave, including products that were imported into it by file.

We have no partner link to that platform and will not add one. A site whose entire purpose is helping people get their content out should not be paid to send anybody into a product that will not let content out. The point of saying so publicly is that it is checkable: look at the outbound links.

Placeholders

At the time of writing, the outbound links on this site point at plain vendor home pages rather than tracking URLs, because partner programmes are still being applied for. When real links are issued they replace those values in one configuration file, and not one word of any procedure changes as a result.

If you would rather not use a partner link, do not — go to the platform directly and nothing about your experience differs. If you want to know whether a specific link earns us anything, ask at the address on the contact page and you will get a straight answer.
